On June 19, 2017, the State Food and Drug Administration and the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering jointly held a symposium on innovation and development of medical devices in Beijing. The conference focused on the theme of innovation and development of medical devices, focusing on policies and measures to encourage innovation of medical devices, scientific and technological advances in the forefront of medical devices and industrial innovation and development trends. Comrade Jiao Hong, deputy director of the State Food and drug administration, attended the seminar.

Focusing on the two major themes of "neuromodulation technology" and "in vitro diagnostic technology", the seminar discussed the frontier trends of science and technology, research and development achievements of products, and relevant policies for examination and approval. Professor Li Luming, Director of National Engineering Laboratory of Neurological Regulation Technology of Tsinghua University, and Professor Zhang Jianguo, Director of Functional Neurosurgery of Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, made special reports on the clinical application of brain pacemaker, neuromodulation technology and neuromodulation technology. Professor Xu Yingchun, Director of Laboratory Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital and Professor Zhang Guojun, Director of Laboratory Department of Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, made special reports on the application of new in vitro diagnostic techniques in the detection of microbial infections, the latest development and challenges of POCT products. Experts and scholars from the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, representatives of R&D enterprises and supervisors have conducted in-depth discussions on the subject.

By the end of May, 2017, 26 products, such as brain pacemakers, navigation and positioning systems for orthopaedic surgery, and percutaneous heart valve implants, had been approved by the General Administration. The head of the General Administration's examination center communicated and exchanged relevant points and procedures.

The seminar was attended by experts and scholars of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, representatives of research and development enterprises, heads of the equipment registration department of the General Administration, the instrument supervision department, the standard control center, the verification center, the instrument examination center and other relevant personnel.
